The Rockford Heroes - Light Scares

The Rockford Heroes - Light Scares

(EP, Lion Music, 2011)

Five songs that are re-makes of demo sessions is featured in this EP from THE ROCKFORD HEROES. The band’s name did not ring any bells plus it did not prepare me for something specific but it turned to be a listening pleasure. The band comes from Sweden and has a distinct sound that owes a lot to both Hard Rock and Heavy Metal built the old-school way.

Let’s bring forth some more detail: they do have some special sense of melody in their songwriting and they could be categorized as a ‘soft’ band but there’s dynamic passion and spread harmony in what this quartet is offering. 80s Scandinavian Hard Rock is some short of basis but some 70s style in the sound or specific instrumentation is not out of the question too. It’s weird; I had names like early EUROPE, DIAMOND HEAD or mid-70s DEEP PURPLE and pre-“1987” WHITESNAKE popping to mind. I found myself listening again and again to the songs included in this EP and some special attribute is that the production and output sound does not resemble at all to the plastic-pressed productions done massively in melodic Hard Rock releases. This alone goes as a credit for the band.

But the overall approach of THE ROCKFORD HEROES gets two thumbs up; the write music in their own way having a great source of both influence and inspiration (the special keyboards work speaks for itself) resulting in a set of songs that shall bring to you good time with non-cheezy Hard Rock the Northern Europe way. I’ll keep an eye on this outfit, promise.
