Los Lügers - Lucifer

(CD, Izkar Producciones, 2013)

There are a lot of fellow metalheads out there who hate the idea of having non-English speaking bands and as a result of that, they miss some extremely interesting albums. Keep always in mind that there are Metal genres that actually sound better with other than the English pronunciation but this is not our business here because we have to deal with the new album by the Punk/Hard Rock Spaniards that listen to the name LOS LÜGERS. Most probably “Lucifer” is the band’s second full-length album but I cannot be 100% sure since the official LOS LÜGERS is in Spanish...

Anyway, music is (or should be) the first and foremost quality check for a new album to pass and let me tell you right from the start that “Lucifer” does this with flying colors. Yeah, leaving on the side the indifferent intro, comes the up-tempo self-titled song where LOS LÜGERS showcase their addictive high-mood music delivered via the simple-yet-most effective chord progressions. For me, the vocals are the icing on the cake working in favor of the music, fitting perfectly this explosive Punk/Hard Rock mix that sounds like it’s coming with tons of in-your-face attitude. The guitar solo may reveal some nice MOTÖRHEAD finishing touches but other than that, LOS LÜGERS seem to have a quite diverse sound, so I guess this is another plus for having the lyrics in their native language. The fat rhythm guitars in “Caída Libre”, the in-your-face attitude of the bass-driven “Alter Ego” and my personal favorite “Lestat” (maybe the entire album has some references from Ann Rice’s arrogant vampire stories) will get your attention from the get-go, and I swear I did try multiple times to lip-sing the most addictive chorus lines.

The Punk chord structures do not limit the lead guitar action that is in abundance in “Lucifer” and allow me to use “S.D.V.” as the point of reference mainly due to the awesome riff that gets additional layers during the solo somewhere in the middle of the song.

At first, the album title and impressive artwork caught my attention but the more I listened to the self-titled song, the more I was hooked. I think this makes “Lucifer” a love or hate album but I am sure the scales will lean in favor of the first, if one is willing to move past the language “barrier”.

7/10
