Where is the stage? Is there another room? I mean, prominent musicians have been performing at Zeppelin Rock Bar over the years, Mike Tramp, ELECTRIC GUITARS and TAINTED LADY just to mention a few (and seeing it I definitely regret I didn't make to any of those, you don't get closer than this). I expected it to be a little bigger but for sure, I enjoy intimate gigs. Apparently, the MERIDIAN gig was the first Metal concert hosted at the venue though. It's mainly been Rock before.

The band squeezed up on stage and at set time it took off. MERIDIAN impressed big time at ‘Nordic Noise Festival’ last year. I really enjoyed their Progressive Heavy Metal. And since that was my first encounter with the band I've been longing to see them again ever since. It's always more enjoyable with this style of music when knowing it.

“Hero Forever” from “Breaking the Surface” started off the show but not all without problems. The power went and then the alarm stating it was too much volume. It took a while to sort it all out but then MERIDIAN was off for real. “City Of Holy War” became a favorite at ‘Nordic Noise Festival’ so it was very nice to hear that one again. Once more it struck me what a remarkable vocalist Lars Märker is, his range is phenomenal and the tone and conviction in his voice just fantastic.

This night celebrated the release of MERIDIAN's new EP, “The Fate Of Atlantis” and of course the songs from that one were included in the set. First out “Fragments Of A Life” followed by “Off To War”. What struck me listening to the EP was that it was more straightforward Heavy Metal as compared to the full length albums. It's all good of course but I do like long epic songs with complex structures. And since MERIDIAN turned more towards mainstream with these new songs it's not really as special as it used to be. But listen to the title track from the EP, “The Fate Of Atlantis”, it is a very cool song still. But “Bricks To The Wall” still beats it. the dynamics in that track is amazing, it's tricky but still very catchy and the nerve is just great. It needs that attach guitarist Martin J. Andersen possesses which is another very important contribution to the impressive sound of MERIDIAN.

It was a good night out, that's for sure and a little bit of a battle towards the clock. The curfew for live-music was at 11pm and due to the technical issues in the beginning of the show MERIDIAN was running a little late. But nothing had to be cut out. Another fantastic song from “Breaking The Surface”, “Pure Celebration” ended the night in a fabulous way, topped with IRON MAIDEN's “The Trooper”. I'm not sure how many people can fit in at Zeppelin Rock Bar for a show like this. I would say around 50, but that amount of cheerful supporters can beat even a big venue. MERIDIAN got some very good support and judging by the heat in the venue, everyone had a good time too.
