Sinisthra - The Broad And Beaten Way

Ok, I’ll admit it; the main reason for checking out this promo was the mention of the name of AMORPHIS’ frontman, Tomi Joutsen in the album’s press release. The next move was to press the ‘play’ button (aw, these digital days…) and I was instantly hooked. How hadn’t I heard of SINISTHRA before? And why did their 2005 debut release, “Last Of The Stories Of Long Past Glories”, completely fall off my radar? I guess with sophomore “The Broad And Beaten Way” I will redeem myself…

Cloven Hoof - Age Of Steel

It's always scary when your favorite band releases new stuff. Not that I really doubted that CLOVEN HOOF would repeat the success of "Who Mourns For The Morning Star", but until that has become fact, it can be a bit nervous.

Nightwish - Human. :II: Nature.

“Human. :II: Nature.” is a crucial album for the NIGHTWISH back-catalogue for two main reasons: a) it is the follow-up to the amazing “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” and b) it is the second album with the amazing Floor behind the mic. I cannot imagine how challenging it can be for a musician to come up with new music after hitting an artistic milestone almost feeling depleted in the process. Remember, the music we like is not factory-created (it can be in some cases) and needs lots of inspiration to make an impact and stay with you. Regarding (b), and after hearing what Floor could do onstage and in-studio, I was extremely excited to hear new music after Tuomas had gotten to know her singing capabilities after all this touring. On the other hand, can you really surpass oneself and create something better or of the same caliber? Well, let’s see...

Tyrant - Hereafter

Reactivating a band from a two-decade slumber is not an easy task, because bridging the time gap between two instances of music-writing inspiration does not follow a straight line. I mean, the song-writing process is strongly related to the musician’s mindset, mood and – yes – to his/her age. Think about it; do you enjoy music the same way you did 10 years ago? Do you understand music the way you did during your teenage days? And the list goes on… On the other hand, you have the concept of some musicians aging like wine, and this bring me to the upcoming TYRANT album. Not only does “Hereafter” connects with 1996’s “King Of Kings” but it also shines a strong light to the band’s always present Doom Metal side. Ladies and gents, here’s TYRANT anno 2020 offering some comfort during these rather dark days.
