Mike LePond’s Silent Assassins - Whore Of Babylon

It is clear that things are rolling when a band shortens the time between album releases, without giving up on quality. I mean, whenever a band breaks the “quality over quantity” motto by putting out great music in less time, proves that the musicians have struck gold. MIKE LEPOND’S SILENT ASSASSINS seem to be on this winning streak and are about to hit the ground running with “Whore OF Babylon” that spend half of time the previous record, “Pawn And Prophecy”, did inside Mike LePond’s music-creating and constantly burning stove. Of course, touring always gets in the way of studio time, and this is of high importance in Mike’s case who is involved in a bunch of awesome bands (do check his musical bio to see for yourself).

Sorcerer - Lamenting Of The Innocent

SORCERER’s previous album, “The Crowning Of The Fire King”, had almost convinced me that there would be no chance in the world for the Swedes to produce higher musicianship and stronger songwriting in their following studio endeavor. Listening to that album, I found myself in awe of what I was hearing while getting flashbacks of devouring CANDLEMASS“Nightfall” on cassette back in the day. With that in mind, reading that SORCERER would strike again three years later with “Lamenting Of The Innocent”, I was anxious but also curious to find out how far these guys have gone this time, and if they would travel farther than “The Crowning Of The Fire King”.

Let Us Prey - Virtues Of The Vicious

Often you need that extra something to pique your interest to check a band that you have never heard of before. Otherwise, it is rather impossible to stay on top of things as far as the ‘next big thing in Metal’ is considered. Ok, ‘making it big in the Metal scene’ is a ship that has sailed some decades ago – at least as far as beefing up the musicians’ bank accounts is concerned. In the case of LET US PREY, it is Marc Lopes who brought me here so to speak. No, reading the moniker ROSS THE BOSS in the press release did not do the trick, but his stellar performance in concert with the aforementioned band did. I mean, how many singers can handle those MANOWAR songs and send shivers down your spine in the process? And if that was not enough, he proved his weight in gold with the latest ROSS THE BOSS album, “Born Of Fire”, showcasing his wide-ranged vocals. But can all that guarantee that “Virtues Of The Vicious” will turn out to be a very good album?

Savage Master - Myth, Magic And Steel

Watching a band developing its style on stage and in the studio is an awesome experience, especially if you like what you hear. SAVAGE MASTER showed their sharp teeth early on, and in October 2019 sealed the deal with “Myth, Magic And Steel” as their third full studio effort. Keep in mind that many consider the third album as an important milestone as it secures a band’s style, and proves (or disproves for that matter) what had followed was not a product of luck or of the initial enthusiasm. SAVAGE MASTER have worked hard onstage and in the studio, and have produced a solid album that has been regularly visiting my turntable.
