The Gloria Story - Shades Of White

(CD, Rambo Music, 2011)
This stuff is good. It may also appear as a vintage Hard Rock rip-off but for some unknown reason this does not bother me. When THIN LIZZY met early KISS and had a drink on Marc Bolan’s magnificent influence, we could say that a band like THE GLORIA STORY was born.
The Sweds have already released the “Oh No” single in 2010, and “Shades Of White” is their first full effort. Not much to say here: the sound is mainly focusing on the analogue 70s standards but it also efficiently looks one eye at today’s radiohuntin’ neogarage Rock standards. Hence, the selection of Anders “Boba Fett” Lindström (HELLACOPTERS) as the producer seems to be a right choice; I, though, wonder if the producer marked the band’s sound or the band wanted this sound and found the appropriate man for the job. Who cares, on the other hand... the album sounds warm and friendly, no questions asked.
LIZZY-ish leads are the main dish, with simple riffing keeping good company, while a general ‘melodic’ approach is offered in easy throughout 34 minutes of audition (see the duration? – this should go out on vinyl too!), making “Shades Of White” a possible good friend of rockers in need of 70s-based Rock with a slight today’s touch. THE GLORIA STORY could remind you of Irish newborn(?) rockers GLYDER if the latter was raised on American ground. I like this album, I really like it. Positive energy old-school Rock followers, give it a try.
7/10
